Fanation

Business Problem

  • Fans experience celebrities as distant icons — one-way feeds, zero real interaction.

  • Celebrities lack a space they own to share unfiltered, personal moments at scale.

  • Existing social platforms optimize for reach, not intimacy — no native way to run paid AMAs, live drops, or exclusive events.

  • The design challenge: Make a celebrity feel human and reachable, while keeping the app pull-worthy enough for fans to return daily.

Approach

  • Discover — Discovery workshop with client and internal teams to benchmark competitors and lock the real feature set; card-sorting workshop to rank features by priority.

  • Define — User journeys mapped separately for fans and celebrities, exposing the two very different jobs the product serves.

  • Ideate — Stylistic exploration across three UI directions (glassmorphic, responsive gradient, flat). Dark + flat won on legibility and code cost. Content exploration tested six formats: images, short-form video, short-form audio, live broadcast, polls and quizzes, and AMAs.

  • Design — Rapid low-fidelity wireframes for maximum flow coverage, refined into high-fidelity screens and interaction design.

Design Impact

  • Turned a broad "connect fans to celebrities" brief into a prioritized, buildable feature set in two workshops.

  • Community and content architecture that scales from one celebrity to many without redesign.

  • Six validated content formats — plus personalized video messages, 1:1 calls, and BTS Q&A — giving celebrities repeatable ways to monetize attention.

  • Gamification and user-to-user interaction built in as the return hook, not bolted on.

  • A visual system chosen for accessibility across a wide fan age range, and for lower front-end build effort.

  • Full concept-to-high-fidelity delivery in 7 weeks with a two-person design team.
